I am a sushi enthusiast. So when I heard about this place opening about a month ago, I made a note to go and check it out. A warning, though: this place isn't that easy to find. It's situated in an area with a lot of warehouses and industrial buildings. And it's not especially eye-catching. But, hey, a restaurant is about the food, right?
So my friend and I went to the restaurant about a week after it opened. It was once an old warehouse of some sort. There were several tables and chairs off on the left side, a small lounging area with couches on the right, and the ordering counter at the back. The menu board was next to the counter on the right wall. Behind the counter were two prep stations, one for desserts and one for sushi and salads.
I had to admit, I was a little skeptical when I first came in. But then I read the menu board. For a place that had just opened, the sushi selection was quite decent, although a little simple. And the pricing wasn't bad either. $2 nigiri, $3 regular rolls, $5 sashimi, $6 specialty rolls, and $8 premium rolls? Not bad at all.
After much contemplation, my friend and I decided to order the Lion Roll, the White Geisha Roll, and the Citrus Hamachi Roll, along with 2 orders each of the salmon, albacore, yellowtail, tuna, and white tuna nigiri. They came served in rectangular foam trays with the usual wasabi and ginger. It was time to eat.
Now here's the part where other sushi enthusiasts might disagree, but while this place doesn't have the near-endless choices and finesse that more established sushi restaurants have, we cannot deny the fact that they serve delicious sushi. Simplicity is the key word here. Sometimes people just want to order something without a bunch of frills attached. Just easy and tasty. And if that's what you're looking for, Deli Sushi and Desserts is definitely it.
